The Benefits of Routine Dental Care

Routine Dental CareRoutine dental care is so important not only for a healthy mouth but a healthy heart.

We know that you may have a busy schedule or think that your home dental care is enough to keep your pearly whites healthy. Procrastination due to fear is another reason not to go to the dentist.

Here are a few benefits for seeing your dentist at least, if not more, every 6 months.

Things change. Maybe you think that you are doing an adequate job at home with thorough brushing and flossing. Studies have shown that patients will stay motivated for six to eight weeks after a dental check-up appointment for good home care. After that, the good habits fade away, and flossing becomes less and less and brushing times shorten. Average brushing time is 20 seconds. A good job brushing takes at least 2 minutes. The Water Flosser by Water Pik is a great tool to use for oral home care. Especially if you add Listerine to the rinse!

Bacteria that causes gum disease also causes heart disease. Men under 50 years old who have advanced periodontal or gum disease are 2.6 times more likely to die prematurely and 3 time more likely to die from heart disease than are those who have healthy teeth and gums. Other studies have shown that gum disease leads to a higher white blood cell count, which is an indicator that the immune system is under more stress.

Catch it early. Why wait until there is a bad toothache? If you had been see on a regular basis for check-ups, chances are the fee would be less and you would not have had to suffer through a bad toothache.

Only 50% of the population see a dentist on a regular basis. The cost or fee is the number one reason for not going and fear is number 2. Please do not let your health care decisions be made because of fear. Our office is quite welcoming. We will do our best to make you as comfortable as possible; from televisions, aromatherapy warm wraps, fans, heaters, neck and knee supports and best of all, a staff that cares about you.
